LONGMAN, SUMAN posted by Joy Leininger on Wednesday, May 24, 2000

I am researching the SUMAN family. They moved to Darke Co.,Ohio from Frederick Co., Maryland, about 1854. Here is the family:

George SUMAN b. 1822 married Souanna LONGMAN b. 1823 both of Frederick Co., Maryland. While there they had their first seven children:

Jacob SUMAN b. 1843
Ann Catherine SUMAN b. 1845
Mary Jane SUMAN b. 1846
Susanna SUMAN b. 1849 d. 1851 as a child
twins Emanuel and Josiah SUMAN b. 1851
George SUMAN b. 1853

The later seven children were all born in Darke Co., Ohio:

Wesley SUMAN b. 1856
Isaiah SUMAN b. 1857
David SUMAN b. 1859
Otho James SUMAN b. 1861
Martha F. SUMAN b. 1864
Florence L. SUMAN b. 1869
Dawson SUMAN b. 1872

I have a good deal of information on this family. Josiah SUMAN is my father's maternal grandmother. They were members of the Brethren Church. I also have photos of the family. I am hoping for some confirmation of the family stories I have collected. Supposedly they lived in the Rose Hill and Mississinawa areas. By 1880 they are found in the Census at Mississinewa. The oldest son, Jacob, enlisted in the Ohio Volunteers during the Civil War. If anyone is doing research for this family, I would greatly appreciate it.

BOYD, FREEMAN, SHIELDS posted by Marilyn Shields on Monday, May 29, 2000

Does anyone know how to go about getting a death record from 1880 in Darke Co. Would a death record from that period list the parent's names of the deceased if the deceased was an adult?

I have been unsuccessfully searching for the parents of Selina (FREEMAN) (BOYD) (SHIELDS) born 8/28/1813..died 3/23/1880...buried in Martin Cemetery next to husband Patrick SHIELDS. Patrick and Selina had 8 children together even though he was 26 years her senior and already had 9 children by his first wife.

Anyone know anything on Selina??
