BAILEY posted by Dee A. (Bailey) Childress on Tuesday, August 3, 1999

Looking for birth record for Elmer BAILEY, born in Missisinawa 17 Jun 1893. Lived in Bradford and surrounding areas most of his life. Died in Bradford Jun 1979. Would I write to Union City for copy of birth record? I am trying to trace his parents (Harvey Melvin BAILEY & Mary Elizabeth BAILEY, who were married, divorced, and remarried other individuals). I knew my great grandfather well (which is much more than most individuals) as he did not pass until I was 16. However, I need a copy of his birth record to try to locate his parents and then their parents, etc. Any help out there?! Thanks!

BARNES, BATES, CLARK, HELMS, PERKINS, THOMAS posted by Lorene Lambert on Tuesday, August 3, 1999

Eliza Jane BATES, dau. of John & Mary BATES
Information now comes from an 1860 census of Spartanburg that shows Eliza and her mother, Mary BATES, were born in VA. Eliza's father was John BATES of Tampico, OH (near German), a War of 1812 Veteran, only a little way from the Randolph Co., IN state line. John was killed in 1842 when a tree fell on him in his clearing. Daughter Ellen THOMAS, and husband Joseph, paid for coffin, doctor and debts of the estate. John, Mary, Ellen, Joseph and more family are buried in the Horn Cemetery. Mary eventually lived with Eliza and her husband Adolphus BARNES (married 1844) in Spartanburg, as did his father, Stephen BARNES.

In Eliza's obituary, published in the Union City Times, April 13, 1888, it gives the following living siblings: four brothers, John, George, William and Henry BATES, the first two having been in the Methodist ministery for many years, and the third, a local preacher. Her sisters are (Vashti) Mrs. Henry PERKINS of Arcanum, OH and (Matilda) Mrs. HELMS of Montpelier, IN. (A brother James died at age 22 and Ellen had died in 1852.

Eliza died April 8, 1888, age 62 years, 7 months and 18 days. So I am now looking for descendants of Eliza's brothers and sisters and for the confirmation of the parents of her parents, John and Mary BATES of VA>OH. I believe that research by a cousin indicates that John BATES is the son of Ephriam BATES and Susannah CLARK of VA, Ephriam also serving in the War of 1812.

I would also love to know exactly where on Tampico Road, John BATES farm was located. Do not know if he owned or was leasing it. He lived there in 1842 when he was killed by accident.

BATES, THOMAS posted by Lorene Lambert on Tuesday, August 3, 1999

BARNES, BATES, HELMS, PERKINS, THOMAS posted by Lorene Lambert on Tuesday, August 3, 1999

Looking for descendants of Henry and Vashti PERKINS of Arcanum, OH. Vashti was a BATES and the sister of several famous Methodist ministers, William, George and Henry of OH and IN. James died at age 22. I have no info on John yet. The parents of Vashti and her siblings were John and Mary BATES of Darke Co., OH
