BUNCH, CLAWSON, ELLIOTT, GOODWIN, JACKSON, JONES, MCGUIRE, PEARSON, PLEASE, RUSH, SIMMONS, SOMERS, WOOFTER, WOOSTER posted by Candy Bunch Odiorne on Tuesday, July 20, 1999

BUNCH migration from NC to Preble & Darke Co OH & Wayne Co IN

Ishmael BUNCH, Jr., son of Ishmael and Sarah (JONES) BUNCH, was born in about 1757-59 in Chowan County, North Carolina. He had property in the Bear Swamp area near Edenton, North Carolina. Ishmael Sr.'s father was probably Shadrack BUNCH of Chowan Co., NC. Sarah JONES, daughter of Thomas JONES from England and Wales, was married three times, but only had two children by Ishmael BUNCH, Sr.: Sarah, who married John MCGUIRE, and Ishmael Jr. who married Rachel GOODWIN, daughter of Richard GOODWIN formerly of Albemarle County, North Carolina, and Nansemonde County, Virginia, before that. She died in Ohio. Ishmael Sr. must have died in Jay or Wayne Co., Indiana. He was a very old man.

The BUNCH family moved to Preble County, Ohio, about 1805 and later settled in Wayne County, Indiana, after it became a state in 1808. Ishmael Bunch, Jr., died in October of 1830 in Randolph Co., Indiana. Record of the "estate sale" is in Randolph Co. history pub. by their historical society.

The children of Ishmael Jr. and Rachel (Goodwin) Bunch were: My William BUNCH (b. 1780 in NC, Ishmael Jr's son) married in Wayne County, Indiana in 1818 to Margaret "Peggy" SOMERS. The Joshua BUNCH referred to above (William's brother) probably married a Miriam JACKSON; Rachel BUNCH married Nathan ELLIOTT 8/26/1816; Richard BUNCH m. Ann PEARSON 2/10/1820; Mahala Amy BUNCH m. Samuel SIMMONS 12/19/1821 (the researcher says Simmons was an Oregon pioneer); Lydia BUNCH married Christopher RUSH 10/25/1821; Frances BUNCH married John WOOSTER or WOOFTER 4/8/1824. Marriages were all in adjoining counties on Ohio/Indiana border (Preble & Darke Co OH & Wayne Co IN).

If any of these names ring a bell PLEASE get in touch! William & Margaret BUNCH married in 1818 were parents of Robert Charles BUNCH b. 1826 in IN who married Delilah Ann CLAWSON. Robert & Delilah were parents of William Richard BUNCH b. 1858 in Howard Co IN who fathered Charles Robert BUNCH in 1887, father of Richard Earl BUNCH b. 1921.
